From the Oscar Nominated writer of 'Frida' - the tale of a revolutionary woman, a femme fatal, a poet.
Known to millions simply as Rachel the Poet, Rachel Blawstein was a Russian teenager in the beginning of the 20th century, when she left her educated home behind and went to the middle of nowhere – Israel. She decided to travel, work the land and write. It was not long before she became an icon of a revolution, a muse and a lover to the first leaders of the soon-to-be state (A. D Gordon, Berl Katznelson, Zalman Shneor Rubishov and others). A love affair with a French intellectual, World War I, Tuberculosis, betrayal of colleagues - nothing prevented her from continuing to believe. Idealism vs. disenchantment is the essence of her extraordinarily intimate and universal poems.
Rachel’s grave on the shores of the Galilee is a site of pilgrimage for thousands who come from around the world each year. Selections of Rachel’s poems have been translated to over 30 languages worldwide including English, French and Italian.
